The cost of producing food in Australia is anticipated to rise as the Chinese Government moves to restrict the production and export of phosphates until at least mid-2022. Australian farmers largely rely on phosphates for their fertiliser regimes and the bulk of this is supplied by China. While the shortage will drive up production costs, Australia isn’t the only country to be impacted and the supply restrictions are not seen as related to current trade tensions between China and Australia.
